🥂 Celebrating in the build-up to World Chardonnay Day with Raimat
Shout Out to World Chardonnay Day Global Ambassador Richard Perugi.
The Raimat winery - part of the Codorniu Group, the world’s oldest producer of cava.
The oldest winery in the D.O. Costers del Segre has been making Raimat Chardonnay wine since the 1970s. Since then, the Chardonnay used to make it has become Raimat's iconic grape variety, perhaps due to the multitude of international awards that it has obtained since its launch. This wine made from 100% organic grapes will captivate you due to the perfect combination of citrus and tropical fruit notes that it displays.
Why You Do Like Chardonnay!
I know it seems like every grape variety has an associated special celebrated day and, thanks to creative marketing, that statement becomes truer every year. So why should Chardonnay Day even cause a second thought or a raising of the proverbial eyebrow? Many of you (wrongfully) claim to not even like this grape that for decades became synonymous with white wine. To not like Chardonnay, however, is to not like wine. A bold statement but one I am prepared to defend in the name of Chardonnay.

“Every time I think I know Chardonnay, a producer in some far-flung corner of the world comes up with an expression of the grape that confounds all my preconceptions.” So says Richard Bampfield MW about the grape he has chosen for his latest playful masterclass.
It’s hard to understand those who profess a dislike for Chardonnay – if ever there was a grape capable of producing wine in a myriad of different styles, it is surely Chardonnay. We invite Members at all stages of their wine discovery to join Richard as he pits 10 distinctive wines against each other in five pairings, via an enlightening comparative journey around the wine world.

Global Ambassador for World Chardonnay Day, Richard Perugi heads up the off trade channel for Raventos Codorniu in UK and Ireland, which in simple terms means he looks after most of their supermarket customers, alongside a few wholesalers & the convenience channel. His key missions are to drive awareness of Cava as a premium quality, traditional method sparkling wine that can rival champagne but at a fraction of the cost, to drive sales of Spanish still wines particularly from Rioja and Ribera del Duero as well as lesser known regions such as DO Costers del Segre, and finally to educate consumers to enable them to have the confidence to try new wines and trade up to more premium wines.
Global Ambassadors for Chardonnay Day, Daniel Miller and Fran Bridgewater FCIM interviewed Pete Pedrick of The Champagne Collection about prestigious Champagne Sanger’s Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs extra brut Terroir Natal.
Made from 💯% Grand Cru Chardonnay with a dosage of 4g/l, this Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is representative of the limestone bedrock of the Côte des Blancs. Each individual parcel is vinified in small volume. “Three years on the lees, this is the signature cuvée of the house” says Pete of The Champagne Collection. “Ideal with cheese, chicken and seafood canapés on a warm sunny afternoon.”

Maria is a bilingual, efficient and engaged professional hospitality expert, and loves Argentine wine!
Have you ever tried an Argentine Chardonnay?
"Chardonnay is our best at the moment," says Santiago Mayorga at Cadus Wines.
When we talk about mountain vineyards, we usually mean those in the Uco Valley and although Tupungato has the most. It's Gualtallary that is regarded as the pinnacle for Argentine Chardonnay, while San Pable in Tunuván is another very interesting area.
Carles Loves Chardonnay!
Carles Escolar joined Raventos Codorniu at the start of 2019 as Head Winemaker of Raimat after more than 15 years experience in other wineries, and has since been involved in many projects that reflect the direction of this winery to become one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly in Europe.
Looking after over 2000+ hectares of vineyards and over 20 grape varietals, Carles carefully curates some fantastic wines and supplies many of the grapes that are used in Codorniu’s famous Cavas, as well as Raimat’s flagship Chardonnays.
Join ambassadors Jim and Eliza Scherrer at their chicken coop to celebrate World Chardonnay Day with a case of their favorite Russian River Valley, BRICOLEUR Chardonnay.
Check out the storied Russian River Valley's rise into viticulture wherein in 1983, the region was approved for AVA status. According to the trade group Russian River Valley Winegrowers, 42 percent of the grapes harvested in the region are chardonnay, while 29 percent are Pinot noir.
Despite their close proximity, the Russian River AVA produces Chardonnays that are dramatically different from those found in the Alexander Valley AVA. The region's cool climate produces more grapes with higher acidity that tend to be more balanced than the fatter, creamy style found in the Alexander Valley. Grapes from the Russian River and smaller Green Valley areas have been prized by sparkling wine producers for their crispness and high quality.

Bruno celebrates Charonnay at Codorniu
Bruno Colomer is world renowned for his sparkling wine expertise, having joined Raventos Codorniu in 2008 and winning the prestigious Bacchus Awards in 2021 for best sparkling winemaker. With nearly 30 years’ experience of making Cava in Catalonia, there is probably nobody better to lead Codorniu’s growth on the global scale. He has spearheaded the use of international grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Cavas, and was responsible for introducing the beautifully packaged Ars Collecta range which now represents the pinnacle of Codorniu’s premium Cava range.
Karl Weichold at Stollar Winery has a degree in biochemistry from Texas A&M and began his oenophilic career working for wineries in the Texas Hill country.
